Food Distribution Continues In Northern Haiti

Still reeling from the aftereffects of the January 12th earthquake, the people of Haiti are struggling to meet even their most basic needs.

Several thousand earthquake refugees have relocated to northern cities like Limbe, Cap Haitien, and Ouanaminthe. Resources are strained, and our projects are seeing the impact on local families and children.

With assistance from Stop Hunger Now and James River Assembly in Ozark, Missouri, Mission of Mercy continues to provide basic food stuffs and nutritional support to the poorest families around each of our 14 child development centers.

Over 140,000 food packets were distributed, enough to feed a family of five one meal a day for a month. In addition to protein-enriched soy and rice meals, food items included salami, canned vegetables, sardines, oats, milk, and cereal.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers for the Haitian people. We could not do this without you!

With over 750 patients treated in just 5 short days the medical team will be returning to America on Saturday for some much needed rest before resuming their daily routines at home. Thank you to our faithful donors who have given to this effort. A newly passed bill will allow taxpayers who make charitable contributions to Haiti relief programs before March 1, 2010, to claim those contributions on their 2009 income tax returns. Medical Mercy director Dr. David Beyda posted on Twitter this morning that the response team of physicians and nurses were safe after another earthquake hit Haiti. The team has also chosen to move from the outer affected communities of the capitol into the metropolitan slums of Port Au Prince where populations and casualties are heaviest. The team will work in a temporary street clinic where other response units have been overwhelmed. The hours will be long and the situation is increasingly urgent. We ask that you keep them lifted in prayer.

The medical team will be arriving in Haiti on Tuesday. Click on the link below to stay updated with the latest twitter feeds from the leader of this trip, Medical Mercy Director, Dr. David Beyda.

Haiti Quake Update: All Children/Families OK

With limited communication, Mission of Mercy staff on the ground in Haiti and Dominican Republic have confirmed that all sponsored children and their families are safe. In addition, no projects were damaged and the projects have resumed operation.

Mission of Mercy thanks those who have already given to support the relief efforts. Your contributions are buying tents, food, water and medical supplies for those in Haiti who have been affected.
Haiti hit by 7.0 Earthquake

Mission of Mercy operates 14 projects in the country of Haiti, all located in the north of this small Caribbean nation, approximately 80 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake. We can now say that there has been no damage to the buildings our projects operate out of. Children are safe and the programs are operating on normal schedules.

Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic where Mission of Mercy operates 30 projects. Though they experienced strong tremors, there has been no other impact to our children or project structures in that country.

Communication remains difficult, but we will update information as we hear more from the project leaders. Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers.

Mission of Mercy is responding to this disaster. Please join with us by making a donation to the Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort. Funds will go to purchase tents, food, water, and medical supplies to assist in relief efforts in Port Au Prince.
