Flooding in southern India; projects, children safe

Flooding in southern India has left over 2.5 million people homeless and caused the deaths of close to 280 Indians. The heavy rains caused extensive damage to the cities of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Mission of Mercy operates 2 projects within the vicinity of the flooding with over 250 children served weekly. Praise God the projects have reported that there is no damage to the facilities and all the children and their families are safe.

Keep southern India in your prayers as the rebuilding begins despite the loss of human life, homes, and livelihoods.
Philippines slammed with tropical storms - all projects safe

Despite the devastation caused by two large tropical storms directly hitting the Philippines, all Mission of Mercy staff, children and families are safe. While this is a major answer to prayer, our hearts hurt for the many who have lost livelihoods, homes, or loved ones in the chaos.

The Philippines hosts four sponsorship projects in partnership with Mission of Mercy where over 1,200 children receive weekly care and support. To read more about Cebu City Child Rescue and Rehabilitation Home in the Philippines, click here.
Update: Mission of Mercy Projects Operating Amid Continuing Honduran Power Struggle

Honduras continues to be impacted by the recent political events. The impact is primarily isolated to the capital Tegucigalpa and within the capital in areas closer to the airport and the Presidential palace. While curfews have been extended the majority of the city and the country is operating as normal. There is no restriction on movement. There was some initial concern for food shortages however the commercial leaders controlling the flow of goods in and out of the country have chosen to operate in the best interest of the economy and continue business as usual. Therefore at this stage there are no food shortages and people appear to be able to find what they need.

All Mission of Mercy projects have continued to operate as normal. Only one project HN-017 was closed due to local gang activity taking advantage of the situation. All projects are on notice to suspend operations as needed should the situation warrant. Thus far the crisis has not reached the main community level. Projects are able to buy supplies as usual. No other reports of negative project or child impact.

Continue praying for the leaders of this country to find a quick and amicable solution as well as the families, churches and projects that Mission of Mercy works with.

Honduran President Ousted, Citizens Deal with Uncertainty

Honduran military troops forcefully removed President Manuel Zelaya from office on Sunday following a series of actions threatening the stability of the democratic system in the country. The intervention was carried out after Manuel Zelaya continued to force an amendment to Honduran law that could extend presidential term limits despite a Supreme Court ruling calling the legislation unconstitutional. The political upheaval has led to a sense of apprehension for most citizens concerned about public security and economic stability for the Central American country.

Jack Eans, Vice president of International Child Ministries has advised the Mission of Mercy projects in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras, not to hold sessions this week if there is any tension or perceived danger in the community. Our personnel in Honduras will continue to assess the situation on a day to day basis.

Join Mission of Mercy in a call to prayer for peace and protection for the people of Honduras and timely leadership on behalf of those in power to restore calm. Mission of Mercy operates 29 projects and impacts 2,962 children for Christ through our sponsorship program. Help now to make an eternal impact in the life of a child through sponsorship.
