Cyclone Aila Slams Coastal Bangladesh and India Leaving Many Homeless
|
Last week, Cyclone Alia hit the country of Bangladesh. Heavy rains caused deadly mudslides and significant damage. Communications were down, and damage reports are just now coming in. Many of the Mission of Mercy projects are in rural areas of Bangladesh. Thankfully, according to the reports we have received so far, all of our children are safe.
The initial reports cite damage at 10 of our projects, ranging from flooding in the buildings, roofs blown off, kitchens destroyed and other similar destruction. The homes of four of our sponsored children were also destroyed or significantly damaged.
Fortunately, a little goes a long way in Bangladesh. There may be additional information coming from other projects, but our country leader is estimating that the repairs can be accomplished for less than $11,000.
Mission of Mercy, through the Children's Crisis Fund (CCF), has sent money to begin the repairs. We are deeply grateful for people who have given to that fund so that we can respond immediately to crisis situations like this. As someone who wishes to help those affected by disaster or crisis, we want to extend the opportunity to you to help us replenish the funds sent so we can respond quickly wherever the need is great. We would appreciate anything you can give - whether the gift is large or small.
Click on the link below if you are ready to give online. You can also send a check with a notation for CCF. Thank you for your help, and please keep Bangladesh in your prayers as the rebuilding effort begins.
