Position Title: Major Gifts Director Reports To: Vice President of Marketing and Development Date: June 2007 Department: Marketing and Development Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt
General Purpose/Summary Statement
Directs all activities which secure current major gifts and planned gifts in support of Mission of Mercy's ministry through events as well as the education, cultivation, solicitation, and appreciation of current and prospective major donors. Supervises the regional major donor representatives.
Duties/Responsibilities

Develops and implements strategies to raise funds for capital and operational projects that are not funded fully through sponsorship.
|
 |
Oversees and coordinates all events designed to cultivate donors and major donors: golf tournaments, vision trips, regional donor banquets, and other donor events as assigned.
|
 |
Supervises the regional major donor representatives. Establishes goals for activity, revenue production, and acceptable return on investment for each representative.
|
 |
Represents Mission of Mercy to individuals, corporations and foundation donors. Maintains strong relationships with specific major donor accounts through personal visits, phone calls, and letters.
|
 |
Recommends and implements a cultivation goal, strategy and time table for each account and qualified prospect.
|
 |
Works to serve the needs of donors who are interested in making non-cash gifts or planned gifts to the ministry.
|
 |
Reports in a timely manner to donors on use of funds through stewardship reports. Maintains strong communication related to project follow-up and a personalized affirmation program for prior gifts and involvement.
|
 |
Overseas the creation and revision of all capital and operational major donor proposals.
|
 |
Submits reports detailing donor contact and expense reports in a timely and accurate manner. Operates within the approved expense budget.

Oversees the direct mail strategy for donors who are not sponsors.
|
 |
Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Mission of Mercy, and faithfully upholds the ministry in prayer.

Acts as an advocate for children - raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one's influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.

Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job
Supervises the regional major donor representatives.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Past experience in planning and organizing events such as golf tournaments, overseas vision trips and donor banquets.
|
 |
Spiritual maturity and human relations skills.
|
 |
Professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal and public communications skills.
|
 |
Self-motivated and disciplined work habits.
|
 |
Good computer skills or aptitude.
|
 |
Experience in managing direct mail strategy is a plus. |

Education/Experience
|
 |
 |
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
|
 |
Minimum of three years experience in major donor development, with current giving and/or planned giving. |
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
