Mission of Mercy moves to address growing need for help in Northern Haiti
Earthquake damage in Port Au Prince. Jan. 12th, 2010

Mission of Mercy has shifted from short-term relief efforts in Haiti to longer-term aid focusing on its child development centers in the northern half of the country.

Many refugees fled from Port Au Prince since the massive 7.0 earthquake, and northern cities in Haiti found themselves in crisis. Mission of Mercy is currently supporting local church partners and sponsorship projects with food, medical relief and other desperately needed supplies.

Medical Mercy teams have made multiple trips to Haiti, visiting Port-au-Prince and our projects near Cap Haitian and Ouanaminthe. Over two post-earthquake trips, these medical teams treated more than 2,000 people, counseled 500, and brought over 7,000 pounds of medicine and medical gear to meet the devastating need. They also trained community leaders and our project staff to use water filters to ensure the future health of the communities.

Conditions in northern Haiti are still critical. Shipping containers containing nutritious rice packs have been supplementing materials bought in local markets, allowing us to provide almost 375,000 meal kits to families in need and churches who care for refugee families in their immediate area.

Affirming our support of the children in Mission of Mercy projects, we purchased over 1,800 pounds of Medika Mamba, an energy-dense and highly nutritious peanut-based paste (also called Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, or RUTF) to combat malnutrition in our children.

Without your help, we could not assist our projects, partner churches, and staff. The continued support from Mission of Mercy sponsors and donors for the Haiti crisis has been so encouraging. Meeting the ongoing needs of children and communities, however, is a long-term effort that requires sustained investment as we fulfill our calling by showing the love of Christ to the precious people of Haiti. To partner with us in this mission, give now to Haiti Earthquake Relief.
