Mission of Mercy moves to address growing need for help in Northern Haiti

Earthquake damage in Port Au Prince. Jan. 12th, 2010

Mission of Mercy is implementing plans to shift from short-term relief efforts in Haiti to longer-term aid focusing on its child development centers in the northern half of the country.
As many refugees flee from Port Au Prince in the wake of the massive 7.0 earthquake, northern cities in Haiti find themselves in crisis. Mission of Mercy's 14 projects in that area are reporting that food prices have tripled and many staples are no longer available at market. We will support local church partners and sponsorship projects with food relief and other desperately needed supplies. Mission of Mercy staff will provide rice, beans, oil, fish, noodles, and bottled water from a storage point in the Dominican Republic.
Conditions in Northern Haiti are not expected to improve for some time, and project facilitators in Haiti are reporting that food and water supplies are rapidly depleting. This plan aims to reaffirm Mission of Mercy's support of the children and families in our projects as well as the churches, staff, and sponsors who make it all successful. The support from Mission of Mercy sponsors and donors for the Haiti crisis has been encouraging, but meeting the ongoing needs of children and communities will require a sustained effort and investment. To partner with us in this mission, give now to Haiti Earthquake Relief.
