Kenyan Families Receive Aid, Grateful for Effort

The distribution of food relief for our Kenyan brothers and sisters has begun! The food was picked up from seaport on Thursday, November 26th and was quickly divided into allotments according to community needs. During transport to the projects there were some minor delays but the shipment finally arrived at the village of Malindi at 2am in the morning on Friday. Not willing to wait another minute, Mission of Mercy staff unloaded the truck until 4am to make sure that the distribution could happen as soon as possible.

The next day staff traveled to the other communities to continue with the relief efforts. Families are receiving the food packets in an allowance of 7 packets per week. This will sustain the families for about a month in all the projects that receive the assistance. Mission of Mercy staff report that the families have been more than grateful for the efforts of sponsors and donors and wish to pass on their gratitude - so on their behalf, thank you!

Mission of Mercy partnered with Convoy of Hope to provide the needed aid to Kenya. Convoy of Hope is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide meals and pure drinking water to the neediest people in the world. Convoy of Hope's resources and expertise in this type of ministry has been a blessing to Mission of Mercy by providing the food pouches quickly and efficiently to our sponsored children and their families in Kenya. Donations to Mission of Mercy's Children's Crisis Fund covered transport expenses to ship the packets from the United States to Kenya.

The second shipment has cleared customs and is on its way to Nairobi . Please keep this effort in your prayers. We will keep you updated as we learn more.

Update!

One of the containers of food has arrived in Kenya. Praise God! Please pray with us that the container will clear customs quickly and that these people will receive the nutrition they need to survive the drought.
Famine in Kenya
The people of Kenya are currently experiencing a severe famine after the seasonal rains did not come, causing harvests to fail. Rural families are facing a double crisis as they struggle to feed themselves and their livestock. Malnutrition rates are expected to rise even higher as food supplies deplete.

In an effort to help our sponsored children and their families through the famine in Kenya, Mission of Mercy is working with international relief agencies and has shipped two containers of food. Each shipping container is filled with 135,432 meals. The first container has arrived in port. Please pray that it will be expedited through customs. The second shipping container is due to arrive by November 17.

The cost to ship, clear customs, and possibly store each container as we distribute supplies to our children in Turkana, Malinidi, Kajiado, and Nairobi will be close to $14,500 per container. Your gift to help with this crisis can be given to the Children's Crisis Fund.

Recently, our country leader, Hapi Wanje, told us about his conversation with a pastor in Malindi. The pastor said that one boy came to the project very weak. He could not play or do anything but just lie down. The pastor gave the child some food and some juice. The boy began to improve and was soon able to play with the other children.

Please pray that doors will open so that this food relief will reach our projects as soon as possible. In addition to these resources, we continue to look for food sources closer to our children.

One of over 135,000 Individual food pouches distributed to Kenyan Families
Each package is a family serving (6 cups) of fortified rice and vegetables divided into plastic pouches and handed out freely and fairly to the communities. Families are instructed to mix hot water with the contents of the pouch to create a hot porridge which quenches hunger and provides energy to continue with daily responsibilities.
