Medical Mercy is returning to Haiti
|
03/18/2010
This is the third trip to Haiti for Dr. Beyda and the medical team since November, 2009, and the second after the earthquake. Leaving on March 20th, the team consists of 12 medical professionals, 8 pastoral counselors, and 3 lay people. They will also bring more than 600 pounds of medical supplies and a number of 5-gallon water containers for refugee families. Working closely with local pastors and interpreters in Port-au-Prince, the medical team will serve in established tent cities.
Serving a population currently living under sheets and tarps in squalid conditions since the January 12th earthquake, this will be a very different type of medical trip. Comprehensive pastoral and grief counseling will be offered along with medical treatment for six full days.
Later in the week, part of the team will travel north to serve Mission of Mercy projects in Cap Haitian, which is home to a growing population of refugees. Mission of Mercy project facilitators report that food and water supplies are rapidly depleting, and malnutrition and disease are on the rise. Our projects are currently providing water and basic food stuffs to families (see the pictures) but more help is needed.
Please keep the Medical Mercy team in your prayers as they reach out to the people of Haiti with the love of Christ. As the team meet the physical needs of these hurting people, God's love and peace will impact every single life they come into contact with.

Your gifts to Medical Mercy are needed NOW more than ever! In response to the earthquake in Haiti, Medical Mercy sent a team of medical professionals to assist on the ground in Port au Prince. The team arrived on Tuesday, January 19 and began working in conjunction with Mission of Hope Haiti, a Christian ministry we have partnered with in the past. Though the team has now returned to the US, this required considerable financial support for transportation and medical supplies alone. Please consider a generous gift for Medical Mercy.

The Medical Mercy Program
|
It's hard to be healthy in the harsh environment of poverty. The world of the poor is not "kid safe," and its children are at exceptional medical risk. When medical crises arise, poor families often lack access to medical facilities. Even when doctors and clinics are accessible, these families rarely have the resources to pay for treatment or medicines.
If children of poverty are to survive and ultimately reach their full potential in Christ, medical intervention is critical.
The children served by Mission of Mercy's worldwide ministry are the ones most in danger of becoming statistics of lives cut short or permanently disabled because of inadequate or nonexistent health care. That's why each of our partners is charged with providing all registered children with basic health care and medical intervention as needed.
To provide each child in our program with a standard level of care that optimizes his or her physical health, Mission of Mercy has developed the Medical Mercy Program.
Our goal through this program is to provide quality healthcare for the children we serve.
