The roots of Mission of Mercy go back to 1954 when missionaries Mark and Huldah Buntain arrived in Calcutta, India to serve one year among Calcutta's poor and needy. Mark served for 35 years until his death in 1989. Huldah continues to be involved in ministry in Calcutta.
Mission of Mercy was incorporated in 1982. In January 1990, Mission of Mercy merged with Bethesda Ministries, Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a division of Bethesda Ministries, Mission of Mercy's ministry focus began to grow. Today Mission of Mercy is working in 22 nations of the world, providing help and hope to more than 37,000 children through child sponsorship.
